Anna Stanley filed for divorce in February of 2000, and the divorce was finalized in May of 2000. The couple experienced several separations and reconciliation attempts prior to the divorce after 44 years of marriage.
Anna filed for divorce on two other previous occasions, in 1992 and 1995. The divorce in 1992 was amended to legal separation, while the divorce in 1995 was withdrawn. The reason for divorce is not known and only speculative, except Dr. Stanley's public statement that the divorce is due in part to "childhood difficulties." Dr. Charles Stanley is known for serving as President of the Southern Baptist Convention and serving as senior pastor at the First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
