Dr. Seuss had a sister named Marnie. Dr. Seuss was born Theodore Seuss Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1904. He was the grandson of German immigrants. Seuss was his mother's maiden name, which rhymes with "voice." However, the author good-naturedly tolerated the way most people pronounced it.
Dr. Seuss wrote and illustrated dozens of children's books during his long career, including "The Cat in the Hat," "Green Eggs and Ham," "And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street," "Hop on Pop," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" and "Horton Hears a Who!" Many of his illustrations invoke his and his sister's childhood in Springfield.
