GE Capital Retail Bank changed its name to Synchrony Financial in June 2014. The bank decided to change its name to avoid confusion between an online bank with a strikingly similar name called GE Capital Bank, according to DepositAccounts.com.
GE Capital, the parent to GE Capital Retail Bank, was also renamed to Synchrony Financial and now serves as the parent to Synchrony Bank and is listed as a public company, as stated by DepositAccounts.com. Aside from aesthetic changes like logos, ATM cards and checks, Synchrony Bank practices and account features have remained the same and will continue to provide important services like FDIC-insured deposit products.
