Where did hockey originate?

Although the exact inventor or date that hockey began is unknown, it is thought to have originated in Windsor, Nova Scotia in Canada. It is thought to have been adapted from a field hockey-style game that attendees of the King's College School in Windsor began playing around 1800.
There are some historical records, such as an engraving in 1797, that depicts games involving men playing on ice with sticks. However, evidence seems to support the claim by the King's College School to be the first to play an organized version of the game. From there, soldiers at nearby Fort Edward adopted the game and played it against other soldiers in the region.
