Where did ice hockey originate?

The sport of ice hockey originated in Windsor, Nova Scotia, along Canada's east coast. It originated sometime around 1800, with the boys of King's College School transferring the field game of hurley onto the ice, where it became known as "ice hurley" and eventually "ice hockey."
The earliest reference to the game in English literature came around 1800, when author Thomas Chandler Haliburton told a story of seeing young boys "playing hurley on the ice." Soon after, soldiers at Fort Edward in Windsor picked up the game and took it to Halifax, where it flourished on the nearby frozen lakes and inlets of Halifax Harbor.
