How did the Holocaust affect the formation of a Jewish homeland?

The Holocaust had many effects on Jewish homeland formation. Following this historical event, it was very clear that Jews needed a place where they could live without fear of persecution. In 1948, Israel legally claimed statehood thanks to the 1947 United Nations Partition of the British Mandate. Once this occurred, most Jewish people willingly left homes in Arab countries to go to Israel, as well as other free counties, such as the United Kingdom, Canada, France and the United States.
