Loretta Lynn's son, Jack Benny Lynn, drowned in July, 1984 after trying to cross a river on horseback. He was 34 years old and the country singer's oldest son.
After visiting campers on his mother's ranch, Jack Benny Lynn decided to take a shortcut home and ford the Duck River while riding his horse. The river was swollen from heavy rain and Lynn fell off of his horse and drowned. His body was found three days later, about three miles from his home. The horse was fine but was trapped in a river bank. Lynn was survived by his wife, Barbara, and their three children.
