Why did Denny's close?

As of May 2015, the Denny's restaurant chain is in operation, but individual locations sometimes close with little to no warning. Reasons for closure are usually due to decreased sales or a sudden increase in rent.

Many Denny's locations are franchises, and it is up to the individual franchisee to decide to close the location. In 2014, the only Denny's in Mobile, Alabama, closed down without any advance notice given to employees. The franchisee stated that the location had not met business objectives. A corporate location in Corte Madera, California, also closed that year due to the location's landlord raising the rent.
