Nora Roberts decided to write under the pseudonym J.D. Robb in order to appeal to a new set of readers by writing novels in a different genre. Many writers do this in order to keep the two works separate.
Roberts was continuously producing new material at a rapid rate. Therefore, choosing a pseudonym also aided her in being able to publish more books yearly. She created the pseudonym by using the initials from the first names of her sons, which are Jason and Dan.
The books written under J.D. Robb are romantic suspense novels. Every novel written by J.D. Robb has appeared on the New York Times Best Seller list.
