Paul Harvey's first on-air usage of his signature phrase "the rest of the story" occurred in 1945. Harvey joined the ABC network in 1951, and the phrase became a regular part of his Paul Harvey News and Comment broadcast for 58 years.
Harvey passed away at the age of 90 on February 28, 2009. At his peak, the radio legend enjoyed a daily audience of 24 million listeners. Harvey released a book version of "The Rest Of The Story" in 1977 under his official birth name of Paul Aurandt. Like his radio program, the book was a hit, reaching 18 printings in four years.
