PopCap Games first released "Plants vs. Zombies" on May 5, 2009. The game was initially released for Microsoft Windows and OS X, and has since been ported to a number of systems, including the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and Nintendo DS.

"Plants vs. Zombies" became the best-selling title for PopCap Games at the time of its release. "Plants vs. Zombies" was created by George Fan, with the game's soundtrack composed by his then-girlfriend, Laura Shigihara. The game has received critical praise for its combination of depth and simplicity, as well as for Shigihara's soundtrack. "Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time," a sequel, was released on August 15, 2013.
