Regis Philbin's son Daniel died on Nov. 7, 2014 at the age of 49. Daniel Philbin died of natural causes. Daniel was born with a spinal cord defect that resulted in the amputation of both of his legs.

Daniel Philbin didn't allow his disability to impede his goals, and he was a successful public affairs worker for the Pentagon. Daniel Philbin was honored by the U.S. Department of Defense in 2002 for remaining at his post during the Sept. 11, 2001 attack of the Pentagon. Danny had a rocky relationship with his father, and in 2008, Daniel's wife publicly asked Regis for money to buy groceries.
