Russian immigrants to America brought their culture with them, including their literature, politics, folklore and cuisine. They also brought Russian Orthodox Christianity, and many of their churches still stand and are broadly attended within the United States.
Russian involvement in the United States dates back to before its founding. The Czar owned Alaska for several decades before selling it and stranding a number of colonists and workers in American territory.
Russians fought to escape the famines and wars of the 20th century by fleeing to America. Revolution left many without the means to travel, and immigration was a slow and torturous process.
