Why did Smart Set Clothing go out of business?

Smart Set Clothing is going out of business because of fierce competition from big box and brand name stores. Smart Set is re-evaluating its operating and merchandising efforts.

Smart Set is a popular women's clothing store in Canada, appealing to younger, business-oriented females. More popular chains of women's fashion have opened, such as Target and Hudson Bay, causing several Smart Set stores to close. Low prices from these other competing stores created an unmatchable price point for Smart Set to continue selling merchandise at. After improving operating procedures and trying to strengthen its merchandising efforts, the company was still forced to close down most Smart Set stores in 2014.
