Die-cast helicopters are metal replica models of helicopters made by the process of die-casting. Die-casting is the process of forcing metal into a die or mold at great pressure to form a specific shape.
Die-cast toys were first produced in the early 20th century by the Dowst Brothers in the United States. These toys were basic, usually consisting of cars and vans with no interior. The metal used was impure, which often lead to the toys cracking and breaking. Die-cast toys saw an increase in popularity in the 1950s, largely due to their increased detail and quality. This paved the way for other types of toys to be made, including die-cast model toy construction equipment and aviation toys.
