Diethyl ketone is another name for the chemical compound 3-pentanone. This compound is a ketone, which is better known as a carbonyl group attached to two carbon chains, with two ethyl groups attached on either side of it. It has the molecular formula C5H10O.
Diethyl ketone is an organic solvent and, like other compounds in this class, is a flammable substance that should be stored in a flammable cabinet. This compound exists as a colorless liquid at room temperature and has a boiling point of 102°C. It is commonly used in the generation of vitamin E and is a solvent in many paints.
