The primary ingredient in each type of alcohol is the main difference and ethyl alcohol contains ethane, while isopropyl alcohol contains propane. Both types of alcohol have different uses and functions in the world.
Isopropyl alcohol is highly combustible and the vapor is dense. Ethyl alcohol is volatile. People can ingest ethyl alcohol and it is part of the creation of alcoholic beverages, but it also has antiseptic properties. Isopropyl alcohol has a primary use as an antiseptic and it is a common ingredient in things like soap, hand sanitizer and other cleaners. Many heavy-duty cleaners, such as those in hospitals, contain isopropyl alcohol.
