What is the difference between a resume and a CV?

The primary difference between a resume and a curriculum vitae is that a resume targets a non-academic audience, while a CV targets an academic audience. A resume focuses on a candidate's abilities and accomplishments in education and work experiences. A CV focuses largely on academic accomplishments.

A resume is used to gain a job in a non-academic field, while a CV is aimed at a job in academia, such as professor. A resume is typically one or two pages at the maximum, but a CV has no limit or recommended length. A resume emphasizes degrees, work experiences and skills. The CV includes a broader array of information related to academic accomplishments, such as papers published and courses taught.
