What are some different types of leather?

The most common types of leather are aniline, semi-aniline and pigmented leather. Aniline leather is the most natural looking, but is the least resistant to soiling. Pigmented leather is the most durable, but looks less natural. Semi-aniline leather balances protection and appearance.

Pigmented leather has a polymer protective coating which improves durability and resistance to soiling. The closer a leather gets to aniline, the lighter this protective coating gets. In modern leather manufacturing, synthetic grains and finishing can be added to pigmented leather to make it look more natural. Other popular types of leather include suede, nubuck and pull-up leather.
