What is DNA's primary function?

Deoxyribonucleic acid, often called DNA, has a primary function of storing the genetic data of the cell. Without DNA, cells could not function and would not be able to replicate to ensure the survival of an organism.

DNA consists of genetic information called genes. Genes can be grouped together in specific ways to form genetic sequences, which are specific sets of instructions for the cell. The DNA controls the cell from the nucleus. Through messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA), the DNA can replicate certain genetic sequences, which can then be sent to other organelles of the cell, like ribosomes. The organelle can then create a specific protein or follow other instructions given.
