The famed country-music artist Dolly Parton was born on Jan. 19, 1946. Hailing from Locust Ridge, Tennessee, Parton found immense success over her career as a singer-songwriter, as well as in her ventures as a philanthropist and her humanitarian efforts.

Dolly Parton has won seven Grammy awards, nine Country Music Association awards and seven Academy of Country Music awards over her career, as of 2015. She has also earned Tony, Golden Globe, Emmy and Academy award nominations. The country star gained induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2001, the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2009, and she received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.
