Patients taking Aleve may take one or two tablets, caplets, gelcaps or liquid gels within one hour for the first dose, according to the manufacturer. Subsequently, one tablet, caplet, gelcap or liquid gel may be taken every eight to 12 hours while symptoms last.
A full glass of water should be taken with each dose, and the smallest effective dose should be used, as the manufacturer explains. In an eight- to 12-hour period, a patient should not exceed two tablets, caplets, gelcaps or liquid gels. In a 24-hour period, a patient should not exceed three tablets, caplets, gelcaps or liquid gels. Finally, Aleve should not be taken for more than 10 consecutive days for pain or three days for fever unless supervised by a doctor.
