Is a dragonfly a carnivore?

Dragonflies are carnivores that feed mainly on mosquitoes, flies and bees. Dragonflies live close to water and are prevalent in wetland habitats.

The dragonfly is considered a predatory insect, and it is characterized by its transparent wings and its long body that can be brown, blue, white, red, orange, black or yellow. It is listed as a "threatened" species as of 2014.

As far as insects go, dragonflies are among the longest lived. Dragonflies have an average lifespan of six years. There are more than 5,000 species of dragonflies around the world, and they can range in size from one to four inches.
