Does DVI carry audio?

DVI, short for digital visual interface, carries only a video signal. Although it is still used as a connection for computer monitors, modern televisions use an HDMI connection, which carries high-quality audio and video.

In the case where an older television does not possess HDMI capabilities, an HDMI-to-DVI adapter can be purchased for connecting peripherals. In 2010, Intel and AMD, along with other computer companies announced, that they would end support for DVI between 2013 and 2015, as the technology for it had not scaled well. By adopting DisplayPort and HDMI interfaces, future technology would have slimmer designs and graphically superior displays.
