A dwarf buffalo is called an anoa or, less commonly, a sapiutan. Its scientific name is bubalus depressicornis, and it's an endangered species as of 2014.
The anoa is a small forest buffalo found on the island of Celebes, located in Indonesia, which is why it was once referred to as the Indonesian Malay. It's known for its brown coat and sharp-tipped, straight horns. The anoa has a similar appearance to a deer and weighs between 330 and 660 pounds. Unlike most cattle, the anoa prefers to live singly or in pairs instead of in herds unless one is about to give birth.
