Where do ear mites come from?

Ear mites come from cats and dogs and are commonly spread through contact outdoors and in the home. Ear mites are highly contagious and are almost invisible to the naked eye. The presence of ear mites in a dog, cat or other animal can result in infections and other health related illnesses if not treated.
If a dog or cat has ear mites, there may be a strong odor, inflammation or a brown and black waxy secretion present in their ears. An animal may also rub their ears or shake their head if they are affected by ear mites. All cats and dogs are vulnerable to ear mites, regardless or age.
