What is a good home remedy to remove ear mites from a dog's ear?

Ear mites can be treated by cleaning the ear with a bland, safe oil that does not irritate the sensitive skin of a dog's ear. Flushing the ear with oil washes out some mites and suffocates those that remain.

Safe oils include mineral oil, olive oil and almond oil. For greater effectiveness, soak crushed fresh garlic in the oil overnight. All of the garlic must be removed prior to using the oil. This treatment should be used every day for a month. If the mite infestation persists for over a month or a secondary infection develops, the dog should be seen by a veterinarian.
