What eats Arctic cod?

Narwhals feed on Arctic cod. Belugas and ringed seals also prey on Arctic cod, although not in great quantities comparatively. Seabirds, such as murres, are dependent on Arctic cod as a food source as well.

Arctic cod can reach lengths of nearly 13 inches. This fish features a silvery underbelly and a brownish spotted back. Arctic cod differs from other cod because of its slenderer shape, projecting lower jaw and the diminutive size of its barbel, which is located underneath the jaw. It inhabits Arctic seas around northern Russia, Greenland and Canada. In autumn, Arctic cod may swim to more coastal waters and form large groups.
