Many different animals eat seaweed, including the Galapagos marine iguana, many types of fish and humans. Seaweed can grow in almost any type of saltwater that gets plenty of sunlight. There are many different types of seaweed, including red, brown and green.
Seaweed is extremely dense in nutrients, particularly iodine, calcium and protein, and is found in the wild and grown on farms. Seaweed is normally dried before it is eaten in human dishes, and it is a common ingredient in sushi and miso soup. Seaweed also has certain medicinal and filtration properties and can even be used in fertilizer.
