Econazole nitrate cream is a topical antifungal used in the treatment of athlete's foot, ringworm and jock itch. It can also be used to treat candidiasis, a yeast infection that affects areas such as the skin, mouth, throat and blood.
Econazole is usually sold as a cream that is applied directly to the skin. Patients using econazole as a foam should avoid smoking right after application. Econazole has been linked to minor side effects, such as stinging, swelling, redness and flaking skin. Serious side effects, such as blistering and open sores, should be reported immediately to a doctor or pharmacist.
