What is Edwin Hubble famous for?

Edwin Hubble was an American astronomer whose research helped prove that the universe is expanding. Hubble found a constant relationship between galaxies' distance and redshift, now known as Hubble's Law. He also established a galaxy classification system that has been used by astronomers for decades, known as the Hubble sequence.

Hubble first received a degree in jurisprudence from the University of Oxford before attending the University of Chicago to study astronomy. He went on to work at the Mount Wilson Observatory in California. Hubble was born in 1889 in Marshfield, Mo. He died in 1953 at the age of 63.
