Physical therapists or audiologists use a series of movements called the canalith repositioning procedure to speed the healing process, notes Mayo Clinic. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, or BPPV, usually clears up on its own over time.
Canalith repositioning involves simple movements to help reposition the head, according to Mayo Clinic. The aim of this procedure is to move particles from the semicircular canals of the inner ear to a location where they don't cause problems. This procedure is effective after one or two treatments. In severe cases where canalith repositioning procedure fails, the doctor recommends a surgery to block the part of the ear that is causing dizziness.
