Horus played an important role in ancient Egyptian life, with each ruler of the country considered to be the earthly embodiment of Horus himself. Horus was not the only bird god in Ancient Egypt. Horus had a number of varying forms, all assimilated to the name Horus or some variant. Ancient Egyptian mythology stated that Horus' parents were the gods Isis and Osiris.
