Who is the Egyptian god of dogs?

The Egyptian canine god was Anubis, also called Ienpw. In Egyptian mythology, Anubis is a dog of unknown origin, though he is most likely a jackal; therefore, he is not so much a god of dogs, but rather a canine god.

In early Egyptian culture, Anubis presided over the dead, though he was not the only deity to do so. In fact, his fur is black because of his associations with the dead. The titles the Egyptians used for him, such as "Lord of the Sacred Land" and "He Who Is in the Place of Embalming," also reflect his connection with the dead. Osiris eventually replaced him as lord of the dead in the Egyptian pantheon.
