What is elastomeric coating?

Elastomeric wall coatings are acrylic latex paints applied in very thick films. They are flexible and tough, and they stretch as cracks appear to keep water out.
Elastomeric wall coatings are approximately 10 times as thick as regular paints. The increased thickness means that there is a significantly higher initial cost compared to regular paint. Before covering a wall with EWC, painters must caulk all of the cracks larger than 1/16 of an inch. EWCs are not suitable for retaining walls or other surfaces that water might get behind. Users of EWCs can tint them to a variety of colors.
