Who was Eleanor Roosevelt?

Eleanor Roosevelt was the wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the longest-serving First Lady of the United States. She was also a diplomat, politician, writer and activist.

Roosevelt was First Lady during her husband's four terms in office between 1933 and 1945. She was the first woman in this position to become involved in state matters, holding press conferences and speaking at national conventions. Roosevelt advocated for the civil rights of African Americans and for expanded roles for American women in the workplace. After her husband's death, she remained active in politics and wrote several books. Eleanor Roosevelt died on November 7, 1962.
