What is the elevation of Amarillo, Tex.?

The elevation of Amarillo, Texas, ranges from 3,725 feet on the west of the city to about 3,575 feet on the east side. The city covers almost 100 square miles. Amarillo is located in the northern "panhandle" section of the state.

The city gets its name -- Spanish for "yellow" -- from the color of the sand in Amarillo Creek. In 2013 the U.S. Census Bureau estimated that the population of Amarillo was almost 200,000. Though it is the capital of Potter county, Amarillo is partially situated in Randall County. The city is highly industrialized and boasts a helium plant, meatpacking plants, flour mills, oil and gas refineries, and zinc smelting and synthetic rubber factories.
