What is endometriosis pain?

According to the Mayo Clinic, endometriosis pain typically occurs in the pelvic region when displaced endometrial tissue swells, irritating other surrounding tissues and causing inflammation. Pain due to endometriosis ranges from mild to severe and tends to be more intense during menstrual bleeding.

The Mayo Clinic lists the symptoms of endometriosis as unusually painful periods, intercourse, urination or defecation; excessive bleeding during or between periods; and infertility. The Mayo Clinic recommends that women who experience these symptoms consult a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment. Treatment ranges from the use of over-the-counter pain medications to hysterectomy in the most severe cases.
