What is the Endymion Coronation Ball?

The Endymion Coronation Ball is an all-night party that is part of Endymion, one of the largest parades in New Orleans' Mardis Gras celebration. At the ball, the queen of the parade introduces herself to the attending members and selects one of the men as her king.

The Endymion parade became part of Mardis Gras in 1967. It is one of three of the "Super Krewes" of Mardis Gras, which are parades that feature spectacular floats and celebrity grand marshals. New Orleans holds the Endymion parade annually. Its motto is "Throw until it hurts," referring to the generous amount of beads, cups, doubloons and trinkets that the members of the parade toss to the crowd during the event.
