Where is the engine block serial number for a 327-cubic-inch 1963 Chevy?

The serial numbers on all 327-cubic-inch Chevrolet engines are located on the engine block near the junction of the engine and the transmission. Look for a raised series of numbers on the back right (facing the engine with the hood raised) of the engine near the bell housing.

The block date numbers, which correspond to the month and year of manufacture, are further to the left of the serial number. Beside the block serial number, other numbers that are milled or cast into the block itself are the crankshaft casting number and the head casting number. These numbers are useful when determining if all components of the engine are original.
