The 1930s were the period of the Great Depression in the United States, and people needed to diversify their entertainment options to cope with the difficulties of life. Some popular entertainment activities included watching movies, dancing and listening to the radio.
Because of the harsh economic climate, many people looked for home entertainment options. Some of the activities included getting together with neighbors to play cards, reading comic books and sharing them with family members and friends, listening to jazz and swing music on the radio and organizing home parties. Football also became a popular form of entertainment in the 1930s.
