What is ESAT Radio?

ESAT stands for Ethiopian Satellite Television Service, an independent, impartial radio and television service founded on April 24, 2010 to promote democracy, free press and basic human rights in Ethiopia. Its main studio is located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, although it has branch studios in Washington D.C. and London.

ESAT is owned by a non-governmental foundation and headed by an independent advisory board of 13 members with proven, clean track records. With Ethiopia's state-run media comprised almost entirely of propaganda, ESAT aims to offer differing views and critical opinions to keep the masses informed. It is regularly, illegally, blocked with "deliberate electronic interference" by the Ethiopian regime.
