What is Essiac herbal tea?

Essiac herbal tea is made up of several herbs, such as burdock root and sheep sorrel, which are believed by some to eliminate cancer cells, says Cancer Tutor. Other herbs help restore the immune system and protect the organs. This formula was created by a Canadian nurse named Rene Caisse.

The use of this herbal tea dates back to the early 1900s. Each brand of Essiac tea contains from four to eight herbs. While the contents of Essiac tea are known, the precise measurements are not. As of 2015, there have been no studies to show if this tea is harmful for children under the age of 12.
