Modern day Sicilians are a blend of primarily European, Greek, Middle Eastern and North African ancestry. A Sicilian might state that he is a White European.
Sicily is a self-governing region of Italy. However, over the course of thousands of years, many different people have migrated to and settled on the island, including the ancient Greeks and Romans, Arabic peoples, the Normans, Spanish, French and people from Northern Africa.
The population is a healthy mix of ancestries. Sicilians are 37 percent Greek and 6 percent Northern African, as stated by discovermagazine.com. The rest of their genetics is a fairly broad mix of DNA from the many other cultures that have once called Sicily home.
