According to the Monroe County Women's Disability Network, Euglena digest food like any other protozoa by taking the food into the body and storing it in vacuoles where the nutrition is then spread throughout the body. These small organisms are able to eat food as well as produce it.
Like many of the other protozoa in its class, the Euglena is able to eat food from outside sources as well as create its own food. It has properties of both plants and animals and is not classified as either an animal or a plant. It is in a class of its own with other protozoa like amoeba.
