Is there evidence that vitamin B12 shots can aid in weight loss?

As of June 2015, there is insufficient evidence that vitamin B-12 injections help with weight loss, says Mayo Clinic. Some believe the shots can give recipients a boost in energy and metabolism, allowing the body to burn more calories, but only those deficient in vitamin B-12 are likely to benefit.

Occurring naturally in many foods, such as meat, fish and dairy products, vitamin B-12 is a water-soluble B complex vitamin that is also added to foods and is available as a dietary supplement. If weight loss is the goal, Mayo Clinic recommends an improved diet and increased physical activity, rather than shots of vitamin B-12.
