Sir Isaac Newton is an example of a pioneer of calculus. Newton shares this designation with other mathematicians such as Pierre de Fermat, René Descartes, Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz, Blaise Pascal and Daniel and Jacob Bernoulli.
Sir Isaac Newton lived from 1642 to 1727 in England. Though he made many contributions to philosophy, science and mathematics, his contribution to early calculus was in the form of his method of fluxions. This method was used to solve problems involving curvatures. Newton preferred to express these equations geometrically but also conformed to the more popular algebraic style of expression at the time.
