The U.S. government is one of the best examples of representative government in the world. Most Western countries have representative governments.
A representative government is a system of government that allows all eligible citizens to vote for their representatives. In the United States, the citizens elect the president and the members of the Congress, as well as local and state officials. A representative government can work at a federal or state level. The concept of representative government goes back to the Roman Republic. This model inspired numerous political thinkers over the years. Other examples of countries with representative democracies are Great Britain, Germany and India.
