Non-biodegradable products include plastic products, metal products, construction waste and electronics. Non-biodegradable products are items that cannot decay or be broken down by living organisms. For example, water bottles, tin cans, tires and computers are all items that cannot decay in a land fill.

Some items that are considered biodegradable can still remain in a landfill for a very long time, according to Divine Caroline. Some organic materials, such as an apple core, can remain in a landfill for several months before decaying completely. Paper products take several weeks to a month to biodegrade completely, and cigarette butts take between one and five years.
