Is an Experian annual credit report really free?

The Experian annual credit report is free, as noted on the Experian website. Federal law mandates that everyone is entitled to a copy of their credit report once a year from all three credit reporting agencies. This includes not just Experian, but Equifax and TransUnion as well.
The free statutory annual credit report can be obtained one of three ways, states Experian. The first is by visiting the Central Source at the Annual Credit Report website. There is also a phone number where a request can be made at (877) 322-7227 (FAC-TACT). Finally, a request for the report can be mailed to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, Georgia 30348-5281.
